John David, Western University of Health Science, Pomona, California

John ventured from California to brave Manitoba's Autumn to spend 4 weeks at SHP gaining swine experience.  John is interested in herd health, biosecurity, and agribusiness. He plans to enter mixed-species practice.
 
 
Luciana Dominguez Joao, Federal University of Lavras, Img, Brazil

On her way to the 2008 World Veterinary Congress in Vancouver, Luciana spent 3 weeks with us gaining some swine practice experience. She is very interested in swine diseases which cause demerit losses and condemnations at slaughter.  Luciana plans on returning to Brazil and pursuing a career in food quality and safety.
 
Sandra Barbosa Perez, University of Barcelona, Spain

Sandra spent 2 months with our practice in the spring of 2008. She was able to gain experience in all aspects of swine health and production in all types of production units.  She hopes to return to Spain and find employment in a swine veterinary practice.
 
 
Josh Lindenbach, WCVM, Saskatoon, SK
Class of 2008

Josh was the first WCVM Manitoba Swine Rotation student, and spent 2 weeks in Manitoba, spending time with SHP as well as touring some feed mills and slaughter plants. He has a primary interest in Dairy and Swine practice.

Lex spent a few weeks with us as part of a Swine Externship from the Ontario Veterianry College.  Originally from the Ukraine, Lex has a keen interest in swine practice.


Marta Brugerra Bonfil, Autonomus University of Barcelona, Spain,
Class of 2006

Marta grew up on a hog farm in the Catalonia district of Spain.  She spent 2 months with SHP, and experienced all aspects of Canadian swine practice.  Currently, Marta is working in a swine practice in the Barcelona Province of Catalonia, Spain.

Rafaele Francio, University of Sorriso, Brazil
Class of 2005

Rafaele's family owned hog farms in the Mato Grosso district of Brazil. She was interested in learning about the Canadian industry, and was able to experience many aspects of swine practice with us.

Angie Delks, Purdue University, Indiana
Class of 2007

April/May 2006
Angie Delks grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and developed an interest in swine practice while at University. Angie spent 6 weeks with SHP experiencing Canadian swine practice. She now works for a swine practice in Iowa.


Heather James, WCVM, Saskatoon, SK
Class of 2006

May-August 2005
Heather, originally from the Sunshine coast of British Columbia, spent the summer on the prairies, getting a taste of swine practice.  She was also able to be involved with some research trial work within our practice, and won an award at the American Association of Swine Veterinarians meeting in 2006 for her work on the effect of iron dose in piglet performance.  Heather is currently in mixed practice in Humboldt, SK.

Lawrence spent several weeks with SHP in the summer of 2004.  With a broad knowledge of veterinary medicine, and having spent time around the world teaching in Agriculutral colleges, Lawrence was able to gain field experience in swine veterinary practice. After graduating from University of Montreal Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Lawrence spent 3 years in swine practice in Lethbridge, AB, and is now taking his Masters Degree at the University of Montreal.

Amy Woods, Purdue University, Indiana
Class of 2004

May/June 2003
Amy Woods came to SHP as a summer student in 2003.  She already had a working knowledge of swine practice, and broadened her knowledge base with some Canadian swine veterinary experiences.  She is currently working in swine practice in Indiana.
